Pima Valve has been acquired by J.A. Moody, a long-time leader in the sales and service
sector for the marine industry.

Pima Valve will continue to produce the same quality valves at the same location with the same
proficient and experienced people.  It’s a big win for both companies as they team up to complement
their respective areas of expertise.

We welcome our new President, Lisa Smith and Chairman, Frank Buzan – both from J.A. Moody with
combined decades of service and experience in the commercial and Navy actuation and valve industry.

In addition to all of that, Al Link, former President of Pima Valve and an employee for 45 years, has
retired.  Al was a driving force behind our company’s growth and developing its industry-wide excellent
reputation.  He will be missed but we are grateful for having benefited from his knowledge of our
production and leadership.

We also say goodbye to the other two partners Mackie Lish and Duane Ekren.
Though they have been retired for quite a while they have never strayed far from the folks at Pima.
Mack and Duane were two of the original Pima Employees and they were also key forces in building up
our company.

If you would like to get in touch with Al or if you have any questions or inquiries, we’d like to hear from
you.  You can contact Lisa Smith at lsmith@pimavalve.com , Ken Link at klink@pimavalve.com or Adrienne Link at adlink@pimavalve.com.

We encourage you to take a look at the J.A. Moody website for information on its products and services

In 1967, the newly formed company out of Downey, California became the first tenant in the PIMA – CHANDLER INDUSTRIAL PARK (later to become the LONE BUTTE INDUSTRIAL PARK). That new company began with twelve hard working and highly optimistic employees and has grown fourfold over these 50 years.  We are particularly proud of our skilled workforce, machinists, pattern workers, assemblers, fitters, testers, draftsman, bookkeeper and management. Their commitment to excellence in product and service has made PIMA VALVE a household name in the navy and marine valve world. They average some 16 years of service with the company while several have been here between 30 and 45 years!

We extend a very appreciative THANK YOU to all of our customers.  It is your continued support that has helped make our 50 year story such a success.

To our Vendors and Suppliers, your product, service and reliability has not gone without notice.  Your involved partnership with us has been instrumental in our continuing manufacture of high quality valves.

We look forward to the next 50!

The time has come and gone so quickly.  We want to take a moment and let you know that we take pride in giving back.  Pima Valve throughout the year helps the community.  We give to many organizations.  We have given to the Shriners to send kids to the circus and then again to give many kids a chance to receive a very Merry Christmas.  We sponsored a Basketball team for one of our employees. Another employee we helped supply a softball league with equipment for the kids.  When school rolled around a classroom was in need of supplies.  We did some shopping and filled out their wish list.  These kids from Chaparral Elementary School wrote us letters expressing their gratitude for all the supplies we gave them.  They definitely made us all smile. We sponsored a hole in a charity golf tournament, gave to a music program, Alzheimer’s, Vietnam Vets and during Thanksgiving gave turkeys to a church. We realize this seems like a lot but if we can help just one person then every time we give we do make a difference.

Pima Valve would like to take a moment to say thank you to Huntington Ingalls for the contract award on the Deepwater National Security Cutter project (NSC-9). This contract is for a variety of Gate Valves (Stainless Steel & Bronze) with electric motor operators. We look forward to working with Huntington Ingalls to supply these valves for this project.

We were also awarded a contract with the US Navy.  This award is for the TAO project.  We will be supplying 18” Angle Valves some of those will include spool extensions. These are for refurbishing the USNS John Lenthall, USNS Yukon and the USNS Henry J. Kaiser. We want to thank the US Navy for this contract.

Positive Material Identification

For those customers that may have a Positive Material Identification (PMI) requirement, Pima Valve has the capabilities to do such.  Fees are dependent on the extent of the requirement.

PMI takes two primary forms. The first is called Optical Emission Spectrometry (OES) and is generally more difficult and time consuming. The second, and more user-friendly method, is called X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF). As the name implies, it fires X-rays at the subject metal and determine its composition. An XRF Analyzer is shaped like an over-sized ray gun from a science fiction show (see inset), but it is portable, accurate, and simple to use. Training to use one can be done in as little as a few hours.

Once a casting has been scanned, the results can be downloaded into a useful database format right to a computer. From there, the data can be output into reports or Certificates of Conformance supported by empirical data, ensuring that your valves meet every requirement, every time.

As described in our catalog, Pima Valve can and does much more than supply ‘off-the-shelf’ products. Sometimes our customers ask for valves that are unique and specific to an application. More often than not we can meet those needs.

Take for example this 6-inch aluminum-bronze gate valve as shown in the first photo.  Our customer asked us to build this based upon some unique and challenging requirements – one of them being a need for deep trench burial.  The solution was to provide for an adjustable extended stem and floor stand with added features to protect the inner workings of the valve from the large volume of dirt and tundra.

The second photo depicts a more modest entrenched valve but with a post and indicator per the requirements of one of our customers. It also features adjustable height configurations.

Pima Valve is a proud supporter of Aircraft Carrier Industrial Base Coalition (ACIBC).  Adrienne Link traveled to Washington DC in March to help promote and support the U.S. Carrier Program.  This was a first time trip for our Sales Coordinator.  She was involved in a 2 day summit where various speakers from Congressional Leaders to Newport News Shipbuilding Representatives to Ship Engineers gathered together to discuss the state of the Carrier Program.  Adrienne then met with staff from our state Senators and Representatives offices on Capitol Hill to share what she had learned and urge Congress to support funding of aircraft carriers to protect our nation.  This was a rewarding experience for Adrienne.  It is an exciting year as the delivery of carrier USS Gerald Ford (CVN78) to the Navy is scheduled for fall!

What’s Happening:

First of all we would like to give a shout out to Donna West of Valve

Automation/W & O Supply, a really good customer of ours, for completing

the “5 Peak Challenge”.  This took place in San Diego.  She hiked the

5 highest peaks at Mission Trails Regional Park.  She sent us pictures

because she wore her good luck hat. Congratulations on this accomplishment.

We are helping to send 65 kids from Sacaton Elementry school

on the Gila River Indian Reservation to RoboRave International in May.

The students go and compete with robots they constructed.  It consists

of many different categories. There are mazes, jousting, moving

and programing your robot to follow lines and deliver the most ping

pong balls in 3 minutes.  The students are scored on all the different

level of activities.  They come away from the competition with great

new skills that can help them in the future.  The parents love the

opportunity that this program gives their child.  We are very happy

we could be a part of helping our kids future.
